AP Chemistry Course Syllabus

AP Chemistry is a rigorous, college-level foundation in chemical principles. Designed for independent learners who want elite exam preparation with the flexibility of an on-your-own pace schedule.

Why Choose This Course?

Chemistry is often called “the central science,” and this course ensures you master it at a college level. This College Board-authorized course goes beyond rote memorization, placing a heavy emphasis on applying chemical concepts to real-world problems and developing the advanced problem-solving skills expected in university settings.

Whether you are aiming for a career in medicine, engineering, or research, this course provides the rigorous preparation needed to excel on the AP Chemistry Exam.

🛠 How the Self-Paced Model Works

We offer the flexibility to dive deep into challenging topics like Thermodynamics or Equilibrium without being rushed by a standard class clock.

  • Work on Your Schedule: No mandatory Zoom times. You progress through weekly modules on your own time.

  • Guided Pacing: While you are free to move at your own speed, we provide a Recommended Weekly Schedule to help you stay on track and avoid the “end-of-semester rush.”

  • Critical Milestones: To ensure course completion, there are two major deadlines:

    • January 8, 2027: First Semester completion.

    • May 21, 2027: Full Course completion.

🤝 Instructor Support & Accountability

“Self-paced” does not mean “on your own.” Students receive consistent professional guidance:

  • Active Monitoring: I regularly review all submitted assignments, quizzes, and labs to track student growth.

  • Quarterly 1-on-1s: Students are required to meet with me via Zoom once every quarter to discuss progress, address challenges, and ensure they are on track.

  • Direct Access: Have a question? I am available via email (48-hour response time) and during scheduled office hours for clarification on course content.

🧪 What You Will Learn

Organized around the four Big Ideas and six Science Practices of AP Chemistry, this course features:

  • Extensive Lab Program: You will complete 16+ formal labs (many inquiry-based), plus numerous mini-labs and virtual simulations to reinforce experimental design.

  • Interactive Learning: Self-paced modules include multimedia lessons, interactive simulations, and worked-out examples to demystify complex math.

  • Rigorous Prep: Nine units of study, each concluding with an assessment modeled after the AP exam to build mastery and confidence.

Is This the Right Fit?

This course is ideal for students who:

  • Are highly self-motivated and prepared for rigorous, college-level work.

  • Have a strong foundation in math and prior experience in chemistry.

  • Need a flexible schedule to balance other high-level academic or extracurricular commitments.

Instructor Bio

Lisa Duckworth

Hi! I am Lisa Duckworth, and I am super excited to teach science with Aim Academy! I have been an educator for 30 years. I have a Bachelor of Science in Science Education from North Carolina State University (Go Wolfpack!) and have taught science to all ages of students. I started teaching public high school science in NC – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and AP Biology and then took time off to be a homeschooling mom to 4 fabulous kids. Over the last 20 years, I have been teaching in our homeschool coop, and my teaching repertoire has expanded to math, history, English, art, and science classes for all ages, you name a topic, and I have probably taught a course in it over the years. For the last seven years, I have been teaching science summer camp classes to kids ages 7-16 and teaching science classes at our local community college and I am an AP Reader for Environmental Science in June each year. But, as you can probably tell, I love science! Contact: lduckworth[at]aimacademy.online
