Description

Students must be enrolled in Algebra 2 to enroll in this highly recommended, but optional, add-on.

The Algebra 2 Math Lab is a weekly help session where students receive individualized assistance from their instructor and practice problem-solving with peers in breakout rooms. During this weekly 55-minute session, Mrs. Nelson meets with students to answer homework or content-related questions, practice problem-solving skills, and engage in group activities to deepen their understanding of the material. No additional homework will be required for this course.

In addition, students will learn and practice effective time-management, organizational, and learning strategies for math. Algebra 2 Math Lab is an optional, though highly recommended, add-on to Algebra 2.

We have created Math Labs for math courses to give parents an additional option to help ensure their students build a strong foundation for their current math class and for future high school and college-level math courses.

Instructor Bio

Luke Stevers

My name is Luke Stevers, and for the past 17 years I have taught high school mathematics in both traditional classrooms and online. In addition to teaching, I have coached baseball, soccer, softball, and esports, giving me the opportunity to mentor students both inside and outside the classroom. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from California State University San Marcos and a Master’s degree in Education. I am currently completing a second master’s degree in Mathematics, with the goal of becoming a community college mathematics professor in Spring 2027.

My family and I live in San Diego, California, where my wife and I are raising our four children. We’ve homeschooled them since our oldest started kindergarten, and it has been one of the greatest blessings for our family. Our children stay busy with band, choir, robotics, and esports, and last year we launched an esports club through our homeschool program.

Teaching mathematics is more than a career for me—it’s something I genuinely love. My goal is to help students see that math is not just about finding the right answer, but about developing logical thinking, perseverance, and confidence. My classes are filled with engaging discussions, plenty of questions, and, of course, more than a few dad jokes. I strive to support every student through office hours, test corrections, additional practice, and enrichment opportunities so that each student has the tools they need to succeed.

More than anything, I hope my students leave my classes with a deeper appreciation for learning, stronger problem-solving skills, and the confidence to tackle challenges both in mathematics and in life. Whether they continue on to college, a career, or another path, my desire is that they are equipped not only with mathematical knowledge but also with the character and resilience to thrive wherever life leads them.
