Spanish 4

Get ready to level up your Spanish skills with Spanish 4—a vibrant and interactive course designed to boost your confidence and fluency!  We’ll dive into past and future tenses, express opinions like a pro, and explore music, movies, and traditions from across the Spanish-speaking world. Whether you’re acting out scenes, designing your dream home, or debating your favorite foods—get ready to speak more and learn more. ¡Vamos!

The course is built around the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, which have the following standards at their base:

• Communicate effectively in more than one language to function in a variety of situations and for multiple purposes.
• Interact with cultural competence and understanding.
• Connect with other disciplines and acquire information and diverse perspectives to use the language to function in academic and career-related situations.
• Develop insight into the nature of language and culture to interact with cultural competence.
• Communicate and interact with cultural competence to participate in multilingual communities at home and abroad.

Students will explore themes like travel, food, daily routines, celebrations, and more—all while sharpening their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Along the way, we’ll learn about the fascinating traditions and lifestyles of Spanish-speaking countries. Whether you’re ordering at a café in Mexico, chatting with a pen pal from Spain, or navigating a street market in Colombia (virtually, of course!)This course will help you use Spanish in meaningful and fun ways. Perfect for students who want to grow as communicators, explore the world, and have fun doing it!

Spanish 4 Language Lab:

This class has a supplemental lab offered for students who wish to refine their pronunciation and take advantage of additional opportunities for listening comprehension and speaking fluency.  Please see the Spanish 4 Language Lab for more information and to register.  This class is strongly recommended to boost your language skills, pronunciation, fluency, and overall confidence.

Course Structure

Instructional materials and graded assignments will be built into the online course. Weekly live class sessions will give students the opportunity to practice speaking, ask questions about what they have been studying, and explore various aspects of the language and its associated cultures. Throughout each semester, students will complete a variety of assignments and projects. 

Who should enroll?

This course is for students who have completed Spanish 3 or have a comparable amount of experience. Parents are welcome to contact Erin Garcia with questions about student placement.

• High-speed, broadband Internet
• Headset and microphone (for live sessions)
• Streaming video capabilities to watch recorded lectures

Evaluation and Feedback

Many of the course assignments are auto-graded by the computer. Other assignments will typically be graded within 48 hours of the due date.
