Tawney Roddy graduated from Chatham University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in one hand and her infant daughter in the other. Soon after, she got a job at a daycare so every day could be ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day’ and discovered her hidden gift for teaching! Fast forward 30+ years, and Tawney has homeschooled all four of her children from K-12, who have now grown and flown. Two of whom graduated from college magna cum laude.
Tawney has completed professional development courses exploring astronomy, volcanology, earth science, and marine biology. The course combined foundational content with supplementary teaching materials, deepening subject-matter knowledge and building a resource base for integrating these topics into classroom instruction and student engagement. She is also a member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
During the week, Tawney is also an online Early Literacy Tutor for On Your Mark Education. While she enjoys educating all ages, tapping into her inner child while teaching Elementary students is her favorite. Assembling memorable lessons that incorporate various learning styles, helping cement concepts for her students, is her forte.
When she’s not teaching or geeking out on homeschool curriculum, Tawney is running her therapy pet nonprofit organization by taking her therapy dog or educational alpaca to nursing homes, child advocacy centers, and schools for visits. She also loves reading, training her chocolate lab puppy, being outdoors, cross-stitching, and most of all, visiting her grandkids.
