Dr. Lauren Bailes Reviews

Alivia S. (Student, Middle School Expository Writing) – December 10, 2021

I Loved this class, and the teacher! Dr. Bailes did an amazing job explaining how to take notes about expository! I came into this class not even knowing what expository writing was, and now i’m coming out of it knowing not only how to find and identify expository writing, but also writing it! I highly recommend this class! Sometimes the homework can look overwhelming, but if you take it one step at a time, and do a little every day, you will do well in this class! Thank you Dr. Bailes!

Liliana S. (Student, Middle School Expository Writing) – December 1, 2021

I absolutely loved this class! I didn’t know research writing could be so interesting. Dr. Bailes was such a good teacher, and was very clear in her assignment descriptions. I loved how she had us working during the class and presenting along the way. Everything she taught me will definitely be a huge help for me as I dive deeper into writing. I would highly recommend this. thank you Dr. Bailes!

Milena G. (Parent, Introduction to Research Writing) – October 12, 2021

What a great class. My daughter gained understanding on how to do a research paper and with all the classes listed on Aim Academy, this class did what it was supposed to do. My daughter also enjoyed the teacher. She was clear, helpful, kind and well versed in what she was teaching. We will be taking the class again before the years up to really put the foundation of research writing down in her tool belt. One pointer would be to have your student have a topic to research before attending the class (not crucial), as this will or could help with the thought process durning the first couple classes.

Ethan (Student, Introduction to Research Writing) – October 6, 2021

Great class! I enjoyed the class quite a lot and it helped me out quite a bit . It was extremely well taught and although it was quick paced it didnt feel like too heavy of a load. Mrs. Bailes was an amazing teacher and I am glad I found this class.

Ann Marie M. (Parent in Middle School Expository Writing) – May 21, 2021

My daughter learned a lot about researching a topic and what resources were reliable. I especially liked the final essay they had to compose since they also had to incorporate slides. This was the first time my daughter has done this and I was impressed with her report.

Rachel M. (Student in Introduction to Research Writing) – May 18, 2021

Though the class was short, Dr. Bailes was a great teacher and packed a lot of important information in the seven-week class. She provided constructive criticism, colorful lectures, and more to make a great class. I learned a lot in this class and would recommend it to anyone!

(Parent in Introduction to Research Writing) – July 10, 2020

Our daughter learned a lot in a short period of time, such as how to break down a large project into manageable pieces, how to solicit critique on a draft, how to create a poster to use to persuasively present her thesis in class. Dr. Bailes was very thorough, responsive, and was very much interested that each student walk away with an understanding of the material that was being taught. She also provided great feedback along the way. Class time was very engaging.

Sarah R. (Student in Introduction to Research Writing) – June 22, 2020

This class is perfect for any student looking to explore the world of research writing, and opened my eyes to the many possibilities of research papers. This class helped me grasp the fundamentals of a well-written research paper. I went into this class not having the best ability of writing, researching, and citing a topic. After accomplishing this class, I have a much deeper understanding of how to create a strong research paper. Thank you Dr. Bailes for helping me build on my valuable writing/research skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my life!

Sarah B. (Student in Pre-AP English) – April 10, 2020

In this class, I appreciated that the topics were covered thoroughly, that I received in-depth feedback so I had the opportunity to improve, and that if I had any questions I knew that they would be answered.

Sofia (Student in Pre-AP English) – April 7, 2020

I really enjoyed this class! I learned many new things and refreshed my memory on others about writing. I also learned how I can better interpret literature. Overall, this course was a great combination of literature and writing. I really like that the live classes are focused on teaching a large part of the material, so this replaces most of the textbook reading, and I feel that listening and experiencing is a more enjoyable and effective way to learn. I love that Dr. Bailes makes her live classes very interactive and is aware about not making the whole class a lecture; the live lessons are an excellent mix of effective lecturing and interactive activities. I also appreciate that she takes the time to make sure whether the students have any questions frequently during the class. Additionally, Dr. Bailes seems very knowledgeable about English, so I appreciate having her as a teacher. I really enjoyed the novels we read; it is clear that Dr. Bailes took the time to choose the great novels that teach specific things aligned with the course goals. They were not overly complex to read, yet they were very intriguing and meaningful, and they brought about good discussion and the teaching of particular concepts. The workload was not overwhelming; it was just enough to ensure proper learning. Finally, I appreciate that Dr. Bailes gave a good amount of feedback on the assignments; I would only say that sometimes the feedback (not all the time though) was a bit confusing for me, or I did not think it really applied to my writing because I had had a different intention when writing. Overall I greatly enjoyed this class and learned a lot from it!

Feedback was constructive and appropriate. I appreciate you allowing them to choose a topic they enjoyed and then when my son got off track (started writing a more argumentative paper) you guided him gently back on. Thank you for your quick and concise responses.

I enjoyed this class. Dr. Bailes is easy to talk to and really tries to get to know you. She provides good tips, feedback, and powerpoint slides. Taking this class was a good experience for preparing research papers for college, and I learned a lot.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Bailes back at Aim Academy. A very popular English teacher while completing her doctorate at the Ohio State University, Lauren dialed back teaching online when she first accepted her tenured track position at the University of Delaware. We are delighted she is now able to add Aim Academy back to her schedule.
